Tamil Nadu11 May 2015: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was on Monday acquitted by the Karnataka High Court  in connection with her role in a disproportionate assets (DA) case filed against her.Reacting to her acquittal, J Jayalalithaa in a statement said that the verdict had given her immense satisfaction and it was a victory for justice and defeat for those who had conspired to defame her legacy. She said, "The verdict has confirmed that I have done no wrong. it has helped me emerge as gold further refined by fire."She further added, "I don't consider it as a personal victory, justice has been established, dharma has won. I thank people of Tamil Nadu for reposing faith in me and I thank God for the gift of people's love.""DMK did not win electorally, so they tried to put an end to my career through other ways, finally justice has prevailed," she added in her statement.Jayalalithaa also recalled the demise of 233 party cadres who lost their lives after the special court delivered its verdict on her sentence. "Even yesterday four party workers had committed suicide," she noted, adding "had they

been patient they too would have celebrated this joy of the Tamil Nadu people." "People of Tamil Nadu should get everything [all good things] and this has always been my wish. Welfare of the people is my welfare and I will always work for them," she added.Meanwhile, DMK President M Karunanidhi said this was "not the final verdict." "What has been pronounced today is not the final verdict. I would like to remind one and all about Mahatma Gandhi's saying there is a court above all courts and that is conscience," he said in a statement.Jayalalithaa and three others had filed an appeal against the Special Court Judge Michael D'Cunha's September 27 verdict sentencing them to four years in jail and imposing a hefty fine of Rs 100 crore on her and Rs 10 crore each on three others.Pronouncing the verdict, Justice CR Kumaraswamy also acquitted AIADMK's chief close aide Sasikala Natarajan and her relatives J Elavarasi and V N Sudhakaran, disowned foster son of Jayalalithaa.Hailing the verdict, cadres burst crackers, broke coconuts in fulfilment of vows, played traditional drums and other music instruments to express their joy.
