Ramdev given "Z" category security

New Delhi, November 18, 2014 ( Agencies) Yoga guru Ramdev, who is close to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been accorded Z-category security cover by the Union Home Ministry due to his “vulnerability to attacks from his opponents”. “There is an increased threat perception on him,” said a senior official without elaborating.  A Z-category protectee is guarded by 22 commandos. Ramdev already gets Z-category security in Uttarakhand, as part of a decision taken by the state government earlier.

Centre’s fresh decision, Ramdev’s security cover has now extended to the whole country.

Over three dozen VIPs, including BJP chief Amit Shah and industrialist Mukesh Ambani, have Z-category security. Muzaffarnagar riots accused Sangeet Som also gets 'Z' category security. Ramdev’s enhanced security cover comes days after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

There are four categories of security X, Y, Z and Z+.  In Z+, one gets 36 personnel to guard them while for Y it is 11 and X two.
