President Pranab Mukherjee reached Jerusalem on a 3-day visit to Israel, where he laid wreath at the tomb of the political father of Zionism, Theodor Herzl.

Mr. Mukherjee and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin rekindled the flame at the hall of Remembrance in Yad vashem, in memory of the holocaust victims.
He also addressed the Indian Community in the evening.

Addressing the Indian Community in Israel, the President said, that India has always regarded Israel as a “Valued Partner”.

He said that the West Asian region and the Gulf have always been a priority for India. Emphasizing the potential of India - Israel Collaboration in Science and Technology, he said that the future partnerships between the two countries must prioritise Innovation and Research.





Today, the President will be accorded a ceremonial reception at the President House. Thereafter, the President will hold talks with his Israeli counterpart. He will also address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset.

Later today, Mr Mukherjee will be given a state banquet by the Israeli President Reuvin Rivlin.

Mr Mukherjee also highlighted the flagship programs of the Indian government like Make in India, Digital India and Jan Dhan Yojana.
He said that the country is at the threshold of a new era of rapid economic development.

The two countries will sign several agreements today. Joint Secretary, West Asia and North Africa region, Satbir Singh said that the two countries will also sign eight memoranda of understanding including the double taxation agreement.
