New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party government here has triggered another controversy with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordering a magisterial inquiry into the suicide of the farmer Gajendra Singh.

The government and the Delhi Police, a Central force, exchanged letters asserting their respective jurisdictions, after District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar sought the inquest report from the police on Wednesday.

Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said here on Thursday that the case of suicide of a farmer here did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Delhi



government.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district), Vijay Singh replied to District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar underlining that the latter does not have any jurisdiction on the matter. Delhi government officials, however, maintained that the police are “duty-bound” to share the inquest report.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered a magisterial inquiry.

“You have no jurisdiction regarding the matter,” said Mr. Singh in his reply to the District Magistrate.

The magistrate has sought the inquest report by Friday noon.
