Hyderabad: Around 150 students of a Government High School in Nalgonda fell ill after eating the lunch served at school on Monday. More than 20 of them were in a critical condition.

Students alleged that they were given rotten vegetables and spoilt dal. The AP Balala Hakkula Sangham condemned the incident and demanded that the DEOs be held responsible for such incidents.

Among the 891 students studying in the Government High School at Chandur mandal in Nalgonda district, 552 were present on Monday. All of them were served rice and dal for lunch. Immediately after eating, around 150 students complained of vomiting, headache and upset stomachs.

They were rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The twenty students whose

condition was critical were shifted to the district hospital for better treatment.
Students complained that the cook, J. Anasuya, used rotten vegetables and spoilt dal for cooking. On Monday too, she cooked spoilt dal and rotten tomatoes, resulting in the infection, they alleged.

They added that the teachers, who should test the food before the students are served, got their food cooked separately while the spoilt food was served to the students.

Parents protested at the school and demanded strict action against the cook. “It has become a regular phenomena in government school. Concerned DEOs should be made responsible and criminal cases should be booked against them.” said president of AP Balala Hakkula Sangham Anuradha Rao.
