Hyderabad, January 07, 2015 (Etemaad News) MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday announced that his party would launch a movement for reservations for Muslims in the country. He was addressing a public meeting in Beed, Maharashtra, after holding a rally against the Maharashtra government’s decision to scrap job reservations for Muslims.

He said the movement, which was launched at Beed, would be taken nationwide, Mr Owaisi said, “The younger generations of Muslims are seeking literacy. Provide them pens, not brooms.” He said that as citizens,

Muslims have every right to seek reservation under Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution. He criticised the Congress-NCP combine for betraying Muslims in Maharashtra in the name of reservation during the 2014 elections.

He said the Congress-NCP government did not make any effort to provide reservations during their 10-year tenure. But it had mooted the proposal just two months prior to the 2014 elections. He said only 2 per cent of Muslims are in government jobs and 4 per cent in police departments out of 1.5 crore Muslims in Maharashtra. For the 2,000 medical seats in the state, only 3 Muslims were offered seats.
