Two Asian workers died on Monday after a large pile of sand collapsed on them while they were digging a well in a house in Ras Al Khaimah, police said.

The incident took place at a house in Al Gob area at around 10.30am, said police.

Teams from the search and rescue unit of the Ras Al Khaimah Police recovered the bodies of the victims aged 25 and 28.

Captain Mohamad Ali  Al Nuaimi, acting director of Al Ma’moura Police station, said search and rescue patrol teams from the police and Civil Defence rushed to the accident



site.

A special recovery tool was also used to extract the buried bodies from the collapsed well with a depth of 20 metres.

Al Nuaimi said that the workers died before rescuers arrived at the scene.

He said that the site has been cordoned of and general safety procedures put in place to prevent further incidents. The hole was also secured with a special equipment to avoid further erosion, before the bodies were retrieved.

The bodies were moved to the forensic laboratory and a police investigation is underway to find out the circumstances surrounding the incident.
