A court in Gannavaram has remanded YouTuber Bachalakuri Joseph, also known as Prashna Ravan to judicial custody till July 18 in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Ravan was arrested by Gannavaram police late Saturday night following allegations that he made provocative statements promoting Maoist ideology and encouraging armed rebellion through content posted on his YouTube channel.
Police booked him under relevant sections of the
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and UAPA, citing concerns over threats to the country’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
He was produced before the court on Sunday evening, where the judge ordered 14 days of remand. He has since been shifted to the Nellore Central Prison.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Garikipati Shivashankar, who alleged that Ravan had uploaded a video praising the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit and spreading extremist ideology among the public.
