A youth, Tamilarasan, who worked as a 'Parotta master', had immersed a Vinayagar idol in the Cauvery River near Kalvadangam, close to Sankagiri, on Tuesday but drowned in the river. 

His body was recovered six kilometres downstream. On Tuesday evening, over 25 persons from Seerapadi in Salem entered the Cauvery River at



Kombaikadu at a spot where police had not granted permission, and immersed the Vinayagar idol despite police barricades. 

During the immersion, Tamilarasan was swept away. His body was recovered about six kilometres away at the Cauverypatti parcel ferry point on Wednesday. A case has been registered by Devoor police.
