Today is World Food Safety Day. The day is observed every year to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, and sustainable development.

The day also provides an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe, mainstream food safety in the public agenda, and reduce the burden of foodborne diseases globally. This year the theme of World Food Safety Day is -  Food standards save lives.

In New Delhi, as part of the World Food Safety Day celebrations, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh

Mandaviya will release the State Food Safety Index. The Index is an annual assessment released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FSSAI.

It serves as a tool to propel States and Union Territories to enhance their performance and establish robust food safety systems within their jurisdictions. The Minister will also interact with Scientific panels constituted by FSSAI to underline the government’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making, scientific risk assessment, and the pursuit of food safety standards that safeguard the health and well-being of the populace.
