A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich fought a crocodile with her bare hands to save her 5-year-old son from being dragged into a drain. The incident took place on Monday evening in Dhakia village and lasted five minutes, with every second a struggle between life and death.

The child, five-year-old Veeru, was playing near a nullah close to his house when the crocodile suddenly came out of the water and

caught him. Within seconds, the predator tried to pull him into the water. Hearing her son’s screams, his mother, Maya, 40, rushed to the spot.

According to the eyewitnesses, Maya fought the crocodile first with her bare hands, clawing and pulling to keep her son from being dragged away. In desperation, she later picked up an iron rod and struck the animal repeatedly until it finally released the boy.
