A young woman who had come to Tirumala for darshan of Lord Venkateswara went missing on Monday.
As per reports, Uppu Lakshmi Tirupatamma, a native of Sangadigunta in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, had come to Tirumala with her family. On Monday night after darshan, they returned to their room.
Around 3:00 AM, Tirupatamma reportedly stepped out and did not return. Her family searched the vicinity, and when they were unable to trace her, the family members filed a police complaint.
Preliminary inquiry
suggests she may have left on her own as she was unhappy over an arranged marriage proposed by her elders. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the area.
She was last seen wearing a maroon and brown coloured churidar. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has installed an AI-based facial recognition technology, primarily for better management of the pilgrims and access control.
This system can give the location of a person if he or she is spotted by any of the cameras installed across the city.
