Woman ends life due to marital harassment in New Delhi

A 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her matrimonial home in Delhi’s Nangloi area, after recording two videos, where she is purportedly seen accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to continuous harassment, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, information regarding the incident was received by Nangloi Police Station on Monday at around 11:09 a.m. The message stated that a woman, identified as ‘A’, a resident of Nangloi Extension and aged about 26 years, had been brought to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (SGM) Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on



arrival.

During the preliminary inquiry, police found that the woman had allegedly died by suicidal hanging. Since the death occurred within seven years of her marriage, the matter was reported to the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for inquest proceedings in accordance with legal provisions governing such cases.

Officials said that the Tehsildar of Mundka recorded the statement of the deceased’s mother, who alleged that her daughter’s husband, Rohit, frequently assaulted her while under the influence of alcohol. The family has claimed that the woman had been facing prolonged difficulties in her marital life.
