A 24-year-old woman from Mumbai, who was part of a group of motorbikers on a tour of Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, died after her two-wheeler was hit by an unidentified heavy vehicle in Balod district on Wednesday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 6 am at Markatola Ghat under Purur police station limits on the National Highway 30, and the deceased was identified as Riddhi Thakkar, a resident of Borivali (West) in Mumbai, an official said.

A group of around 20 motorbikers



from different parts of Maharashtra and some other states had arrived in Raipur earlier and was travelling towards the Bastar region when the accident occurred, he said. Thakkar was riding a Bajaj Avenger when her motorcycle was hit by the unidentified heavy vehicle, leaving her seriously injured, particularly in the legs, the official said. 

The vehicle fled the scene after the accident, which took place around 90km away from the state capital Raipur, and efforts were underway to trace it and the driver, he stated.
