A woman who demanded Rs 3 crore for settling a case of her cancelled engagement and even threatened to kill the boy and his family if they failed to do it has been booked by the police.

Tirupati East CI Srinivasulu on Friday said that a guy, Vamsi, working as a scientist in Vijaya Hospital, Chennai, got introduced to a woman, Namrata, belonging to Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad through a dating app. She is a deputy manager in New India Insurance company.

Eventually, their friendship blossomed into love and with the permission of their elders, the duo got engaged a year ago. According to the complaint

lodged by Vamsi, since they got engaged, Namrata had been threatening him to transfer all his assets and cash in her name.

Fearing that the situation would become dangerous if they got married, Vamsi got his engagement cancelled, speaking to the family elders. In 2025, Namrata filed a cheating case against Vamsi after he revoked the engagement.

Even afterwards, Namrata reportedly continued to threaten and bombard Vamsi by calling him up on his mobile phone. As a result, Vamsi blocked her number and since then, Namrata began sending e-mails demanding Rs 3 crore to settle the revoked engagement with him.
