Lucknow, April 28: It has been more than a month since Yogi Adityanath was elected as Uttar Pradesh chief minister on March 19. Yogi has been keeping ministers in his cabinet and babus on their toes.
Cracking the whip on late comers, Yogi has reportedly told babus to be present in office from 9 am to 6 pm, and to ensure that they are in office during those nine hours, Yogi has told them that he 'can call them anytime' on landline numbers. He has also told cabinet ministers to conduct surprise checks in their departments. The alert was issued on Friday.
In a crackdown on laxity, the 'workaholic' Yogi also made it clear that those officials who cannot work upto 18 to 20 hours, are free to leave.

'The state government will not tolerate any laxity in implementation of its schemes. Officers willing to work 18-20 hours a day can continue with the government or else, they are free to leave,' he had declared on his home turf of Gorakhpur.

'I am a workaholic and the bureaucrats will have to deliver too. Those ready to work hard should continue and the non-performers should leave,' he

had said clearly in a stern message.

On April 24, Yogi had instructed that a biometric attendance system be put in place in offices up to the block level, to ensure all government employees reach work on time.
This is one of the various strict instructions issued by the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh, to improve governance and to keep law and order in place.
On Thursday, Yogi also told officials to be more active on social media for publicising the work done by their departments and to ensure that people were made aware of the work being done for their welfare.

Among many of the initiatives, Yogi asked for a ban on consumption of paan and gutkha government offices, schools and hospitals. He also administered an oath of cleanliness and honesty to his cabinet ministers.

Though some in the bureaucracy feel that things will soon settle down and the functioning of the government will return to its 'normal' speed, others are a little sceptical as they have heard of Adityanath's routine of waking up at 3 am and not returning to bed before 11 pm.
