Uttarakhand CM to visit rain-affected areas

Dehradun: In Uttarakhand, death toll in rain-related incidents has increased to over 30 while five people are still missing. Kumaon is the worst-affected region in the State. Maximum deaths have been reported from Nainital district. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced compensation of four lakh rupees for the families of the deceased.

 

The Chief Minister will conduct on-site inspection of rain-affected districts of Nainital, Almora, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar today. He visited the rain-hit areas of Garhwal and Kumaon regions yesterday and inquired about the well being of the



affected people. He has directed the district administration to carry out relief and rescue work on a war footing.

 

Relief and rescue operations are going on in full swing in the affected areas of the state. National Disaster Response Force has deployed 15 teams in Uttarakhand to assist in rescue and relief works. Three Indian Air Force helicopters are also carrying out relief and rescue operations in the rain-ravaged state.

 

Meanwhile, National Highways connecting Gangotri, Yamnoutri and Kedarnath have been reopened for vehicular movement.
