In Uttar Pradesh, over 57 percent voter turnout was recorded for the Seventh and Final Phase of Assembly Elections yesterday. Barring few sporadic incidents voting was peaceful in the seventh phase. 54 constituencies spread over 9 districts went to poll yesterday.

The districts are Mau, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Bhadohi, Chandauli,  Mirzapur and Sonbhadra. The highest voter turnout of around 62 percent was registered in Chandauli district while, lowest 55 per cent was recorded in Azamgarh.

Prominent candidates in the fray were



ministers of the state government, Neelkanth Tiwari, Anil Rajbhar, Ravindra jayaswal, Sangeeta Balwant Bind and Girish Yadav. Leaders from opposition Omprakash Rajbhar, the head of Subhashpa party was contesting from zaheerabad seat in Gazipur district and bhimraj bhar, the state president of bahujan Samaj party was trying his political luck from Mau Sadar seat.

In case of Assembly By-Election for the Majuli seat in Assam the polling went on till 5.00 P.M. An average voter turnout of over 68 percent was recorded in the bypoll.
