Kohima: Union Minister of State for Tourism, Culture & DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy yesterday inaugurated the State Soil Testing Laboratory at the Directorate of Social & Water Conservation in Kohima. Funded by North East Council, NEC Ministry of DoNER, the project cost is 371.70 lakh rupees with NEC share of 90 percent and 10 percent state share.
 
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy in his address said Northeastern region has been a focus area of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said PM Modi calls North eastern states as Ashtalakshmi states as they symbolize different source of wealth.
 
The Union Minister said, the Government of India has been at the forefront of ensuring that soil quality is effectively managed to make agriculture more productive, sustainable and climate resilient to conserve natural resources.

He said the soil health dash board of the Agriculture ministry provides detailed information on various parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorus, PH, micro nutrients and others.
 
Reddy said, establishment of soil testing laboratory, building and equipment in the state will help boost agriculture by enabling systematic collection of soil samples and analysis, besides assisting in timely generation of test reports through soil health cards.

satisfaction over the quality of the equipments installed at the laboratory, the Minister said it is a state of art system wherein the laboratory is equipped with more compatible instruments to analyze both macro and micro nutrients  and will benefit farmers, research scholars, students, policy makers and land user departments, Agri and allied departments.
 
Reddy requested the officers to start the testing activities from block level to district level. He said, the central government is ready to extend support to all the farmers and get benefitted from the soil testing.
 
He further said special focus has been given to Northeast states for promoting oil palm farming. He said central government has allotted 12000 crore rupees of which 50 percent allotted to North east region. 
 
The Minister urged upon the farmers of the Northeastern state including Nagaland to avail the benefits from the central government schemes. Nagaland Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu also spoke on the occasion.
 
Earlier, the Union Minister held a review meeting with Planning & Co-ordination Department and other implementing departments of schemes under the Ministry of DoNER. The Minister took stock of the progress of ongoing projects and the implementation of the schemes in Nagaland.
