Union Cabinet Approves Green Energy Corridors

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Rs 1.86 lakh crore green energy corridors Phase III scheme to evacuate renewable energy with battery energy storage. 

The scheme aims to develop an intra-state transmission system with a battery energy storage ecosystem, which will help in achieving the target of 900 GW installed non-fossil capacity by 2035, according to the



government. 

Announcing the decision after the cabinet meeting, Union minister Ashwini Vaisashhnaw said that adequate transmission capacity would be critical as renewable energy rises with the government seeking to ensure that grid infrastructure comes up ahead of new renewable projects.

However, this is significant in view of India’s ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
