Former JNU student and activist Umar Khalid was granted interim bail on Thursday for 14 days from December 16 to 29 to attend his sister's wedding scheduled for December 27. As per details, his plea was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai at Delhi's Karkardooma Court, where the order was passed after considering his request for temporary relief. Khalid is an accused in the larger conspiracy case connected to the Delhi riots and has been charge-sheeted under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act along with several other individuals. The case continues to move through the legal system, with multiple accused facing serious charges.
Khalid has been lodged in jail since his arrest after the Delhi
riots. The interim bail order marks a short period of relief for him. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai stated that Khalid will remain out on bail from December 16 to December 29. "Since the marriage is of the applicant's own sister, the application is allowed and the applicant is granted interim bail from 16.12.2025 to 29.12.2025 on furnishing a personal bond of 20,000 rupees and two sureties of the same amount, subject to the following conditions."
As per the conditions, Khalid cannot use social media during this period. He can meet only his family members, relatives and close friends. He must stay either at his home or at the venues of the wedding ceremonies disclosed to the court.
