Police found 20 'super bags' from one shop while 24 potash bags and five diamond bags were found from another shop during a search operation.

Two shop owners in Thoubal, Manipur were arrested for selling fertilisers at higher rates while 49 fertiliser bags were seized from their possession by a team of Khongjom Police station on Monday.

As per police sources, acting on reliable information that some fertiliser shops located at Samaram Lamkhai were selling fertilisers at rates higher than the normal rates, a police team of Thoubal district led by SDPO Thoubal H Johnny Sharma, assisted by OC Khongjom Police station inspector K Santosh Singh and a mobile team of Thoubal Commando led by SI L Dhanabir Singh rushed to the area.  

Extensive search were conducted at the shops owned by one Konsam Mohori ,42, son of (L) K Shamu Singh of Samaram Marnang Leikai and another Chanambam Sharat Singh ,50, son of (L) Ch Gouramani Singh of Samaram Lamkhai.

During the search, 20 'super bags' were found from the shop owned by Mohori while 24 potash bags and five diamond bags were found from the shop owned by Sharat. The bags



were seized from their possession.

During investigation, Konsam Mohori said that he opened the shop at Samaram lamkhai six years ago and started selling agricultural items. He revealed that he mostly brought such items from one Langpoklakpam Roshan Singh, 41, son of L Chourajit Singh of Khongjom Tekcham Mamang Leikai of Khongjom Tekcham Mamang Leikai.

He further said that on July 9, he brought 50 'Super bags' from Roshan at the price of Rs 680 per bag. From that, he sold out 30 such bags at the price of Rs 730 per bag to many local customers whereas the MRP is only Rs 500.

Sharat Singh said that on July 5 he brought 30 'Potash bags' from the same Roshan Singh at the price of Rs 1,200 per bag and 10 'Daimond bags' at the price of Rs 1,750 per bag. From that, he has sold six Potash bags at the price of Rs 1,250 per bag and five 'Daimond bags' at Rs 1,800 per bag whereas, the MRP per Potash bag is Rs 875 and MRP per 'Diamond bag' is Rs 480.

Both the shop owners were arrested and the bags seized from their respective possessions. Khongjom Police station will take up further course of action with SP Thoubal and DC Thoubal
