Two Crane Operators Injured After Crane Catches Fire in Mumbai

Two crane operators were injured after a crane caught fire during a cargo-lifting operation at Mumbai Port on Sunday evening, police said. 

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on August 30 at the BPS port area, where a 140-metric-tonne cargo was being lifted from the Barbados-flagged vessel Vienna using two cranes operated by Barkat company. 

According to the Yellow Gate Police Station, the accident occurred after the strap attached to the cargo on one of the cranes became



imbalanced and came off during the operation. The load then shifted onto the second crane, causing it to lift off the ground.

The crane's front telescopic boom subsequently struck the vessel. The impact and resulting friction caused the crane to catch fire, police said. 

The Mumbai Port Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. Two crane operators, Ranjit Singh and Nishant Singh, sustained injuries in the incident. They were taken to St George Hospital for treatment.
