The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday criticized Kerala on the issue related to the Mullaperiyar dam, during the first session of the state Legislative Assembly held after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government assumed office and won the trust vote earlier this year.

During the policy speech, the government clarified that it will not allow a new dam and will resist the efforts of the Kerala government. The Mullaperiyar dam issue has been a bone of contention between the two states for a

long time.

The session began with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s address to the House in the morning. In his maiden address to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Arlekar said the state government will take steps for fair devolution of funds from the Centre.

A report detailing Centre's "discriminatory approach" over financial devolution to Tamil Nadu will be published, he said. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin and others were present.
