An 8-year-old girl, kidnapped when her parents were sleeping near the Central railway station, was recovered within half-an-hour of the incident on Thursday.

The child’s father, Shanijal Das (56), belonging to Jharkhand, works as agricultural labourer in Tiruchy.

He had come to Central railway station during the early hours of Thursday with his wife and two children to go to his native state. The family slept at a place near the railway station, awaiting the arrival of the

train.

Around 3 am, a man took the sleeping 8-year-old girl in his arms and left the place. An auto driver who saw the man walking with the child questioned him. The man answered in Tamil while the girl was crying and speaking in Hindi.

Getting suspicious, the auto driver informed the Elephant Gate police station. At the same time, Shanijal Das, too, rushed to the police station and filed a complaint. They found the man, Sasikumar (42), belonging to Ponneri, with the child and arrested him. The child was recovered within half-an-hour.
