Tamil Nadu State Lorry Owners Federation president C. Dhanaraj said that it should not be made mandatory for nationally permitted trucks to purchase and install GPS-based Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) with warning bells.
Speaking to reporters in Salem on Monday, Dhanaraj said the Centre had made it mandatory for nationally permitted trucks to install VLTDs
equipped with GPS and warning bells which was unnecessary.
“If the state government wishes, it can choose not to implement or enforce the order. The Federation had already submitted a petition to the State transport minister” C Dhanraj said. “The government itself recently cancelled the tender for installing the same device in government buses, citing the high cost,” he added.
