TN Govt Will Not Compromise on Cauvery Rights, says Anand

Water Resources Minister N Anand assured the state Assembly on Friday that his government will not make any compromise when it comes to safeguarding the state's rights in the Cauvery.

Replying to a calling attention motion regarding the Mekedatu dam proposed by Karnataka, the minister highlighted that the Cauvery river serves as the lifeline of Tamil Nadu, sustaining agriculture across the Delta districts and catering to the drinking water needs of



several other districts.

He pointed out that Karnataka is not honouring the order of the Supreme Court based on the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), though the verdict is clear. Stating that according to the final orders of SC, Tamil Nadu should have received 46.359 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic) feet of water by August 6, 2026, he said, however, the state has received only 4.947 TMC so far, resulting in an acute deficit of 41.412 TMC feet.
