Chennai: On a Sunday evening in Tamil Nadu, three teenagers drowned while bathing in a channel at Thukkalapatti.  The police have identified the deceased as R Gopi Kishan, 19, his brother R Kishore Kumar, 18, and their friend, N Hariharan, 18.

The three drowned in the deeper section of the channel - Periya Atru Kalvai. The bodies of the three have been sent for post mortem to the Government Rajaji Hospital by the fire and rescue services.

It was reported that bathing is prohibited in the channel, yet youngsters bathe there. The Othakadai police have registered a case.

taken place in Tamil Nadu where four people, including two kids, drowned, trying to save a girl from the water body by the temple.

The deceased girl Narmadha, 14, went to wash clothes by the pond along with her friends. She slipped into the deep side of the pond by the Angalamman temple in Pudhu Gummidipundi village.

The other four, Jeevitha, 14, Aswatha, 14, her mother Sumathi, 38, and Jothi, 30, jumped into the river to help. But they all had drowned even before reaching Narmadha's spot. Police and firefighters arrived at the site, retrieved the bodies, and sent them to Ponneri Government Hospital for post-mortem.
