Ten people, including women and children, were killed in incidents of house collapse in different of Uttar Pradesh amid heavy rains even as the flood situation worsened in the state following a further rise in the water levels of major rivers.

According to the reports, three children were buried alive after a wall caved in amid heavy rains at Mirpur village in Barabanki district on Wednesday evening. In similar incidents at Lakhimpur-Kheri and Badayun districts, seven people were killed.

Reports said that an overflowing Ghaghra river breached its embankments in Barabanki, Gonda and Bahariahc districts and



inundated large tracts of lands. Dozens of villages were marooned in these districts, sources said. 

Ghaghra was flowing above the danger mark all along its course.

Traffic came to a halt on the Lucknow-Gonda highway after flood waters swept away a culvert near Gonwa village, sources said. The situation in Gorakhpur, Sitapur, Lakhimpur-Kheri is also grim. 

The issue also rocked the state assembly on Wednesday and the opposition members accused the government of doing little to alleviate the sufferings of the people in flood affected districts.
