Experts concerned as public behaviour remains unchanged despite strict enforcement
Hyderabad: Telangana is witnessing an average of approximately 40,000 traffic challans every day, reflecting the continued prevalence of traffic rule violations despite strict enforcement measures by the police.
According to traffic police figures cited in the report, approximately 3.77 crore traffic violations were recorded over the past 32 months. However, the large number of penalties has not resulted in a significant improvement in motorists' behaviour, raising concerns among traffic authorities and road safety experts.
Common violations include overspeeding, riding without helmets, driving on the wrong side of the road and disregarding traffic signals. Authorities have observed that many motorists continue to violate traffic regulations even after receiving penalties.
Traffic officials believe that issuing challans alone cannot provide a permanent solution to the problem. They emphasise the need for greater public awareness, responsible driving practices and consistent enforcement to bring about
lasting changes in road behaviour.
Traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda have been conducting regular enforcement drives, vehicle inspections and special campaigns to identify and penalise violators.
Experts point out that road safety requires a change in public attitudes rather than merely imposing financial penalties. They stress the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, following speed limits, obeying traffic signals and avoiding dangerous driving practices.
The increasing use of technology and traffic surveillance systems has helped authorities identify violations more effectively. Nevertheless, the persistently high number of challans indicates that enforcement must be accompanied by sustained education and awareness initiatives.
Officials have urged motorists to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with the authorities to reduce accidents and ensure safer roads for everyone.
The figures highlight the urgent need for a combined approach involving strict enforcement, public education and responsible driving to improve road safety across Telangana.
