Extending 'Tamil Nadu Day' greetings to the people of the state, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Saturday announced that his government would officially celebrate both November 1, the day Madras State was formed, and July 18, the day former Chief Minister C N Annadurai passed a resolution to rename it as Tamil Nadu.
Urging people to take a pledge to make Tamil Nadu the leading state in the country across all sectors, the chief minister, in his social media message said, "On July 18, a historic resolution was proposed and passed in the Legislative Assembly by Perarignar Anna to rename it Tamil
Nadu."
Paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters and leaders whose sacrifices led to the creation and naming of the state, he said, "On this historic day, when the resolution to name our state Tamil Nadu was passed to honour the antiquity, history, culture, and linguistic pride of Tamils, I extend my heartfelt Tamil Nadu Day greetings to all Tamil people."
"Let us pledge on this day to transform Tamil Nadu, the homeland of the classical Sangam language, where equality and social justice thrive, and which excels in education, technology, and skilled human resources, into the premier state of India," he said.
