The Pimpri-Chinchwad police has arrested a man from Tamil Nadu for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 11 lakh and entering into a “false marriage” with her by signing fake documents.

The accused has been identified as Premraj Thevraj, a resident of Chennai. An FIR in this case was registered by the woman, who resides in Chinchwad, at Nigdi police station on Sunday.

According to a press release issued on Monday, the woman met Thevraj through a matrimony site



last year. Thevraj said he would marry her and after phone conversations for about three months, he sought financial help from her, police said, adding that he received Rs 11,04,500 from the complainant.

Then he called her to Chennai, where he made her sign fake marriage documents, police said. He also gave her a fake marriage certificate, police said. Then he asked her to take a loan of Rs 80 lakh in her name for him and when she refused, he threatened to harm her parents, police said.
