A veil

of secrecy over the extent of the AIADMK supremo’s illness has sparked a wave of rumours. So far, eight people have been arrested in Tamil Nadu for spreading rumours about the health condition of the former actress-turned-politician with the last being a 28-year-old youth for a Facebook post on Jayalalithaa.
Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have urged the ruling party to release a video or pictures of Jayalalithaa to end rumours about her health that have been doing the rounds. A plea in the Madras HC, that sought a release of pictures or videos, had also been dismissed.
In the absence of CM Jayalalitha, Finance Minister O Panneerselvam had chaired Tamil Nadu’s first cabinet meeting on Wednesday with a framed portrait of the CM on his desk.
