Tamed elephant Marthanda (53), weighed about 4,500 kgs, who was injured in the attack on him by his fellow tamed elephant Kanjan at Dubare Elephant Camp of Kodagu on Monday, succumbed to its injuries on Tuesday after the elephant failed to respond to the treatment administered by veterinarians.
Kanjan attacked Marthanda during their routine bathing at River Cauvery flowing through the camp. In the fight, Kanjan gave a strong push to Marthanda which made him slip
and fell on a visitor, Tulsi (33), a native of Tamil Nadu, who died after coming under the massive sized jumbo.
After Marthanda fell, Kanjan injured him with his tusks and sources told Deccan Chronicle that Marthanda sustained severe stab injuries caused by Kanjan?s tusks in about 6 places.
Minister of Forest and Environment Eshwar Khandre on Tuesday ruled out Kanjan from taking part in Mysore Dasara festivities taking note of its behavior.
