Supreme Court Dismisses Nagender's Disqualification Appeal

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed former Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender's appeal challenging the Telangana High Court's ruling that disqualified him from the state Legislative Assembly. 

The High Court had held that he violated the anti-defection provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution by leaving the BRS party for the ruling Congress party.The High Court had set aside an order of the Assembly Speaker in March this year dismissing petitions seeking his



disqualification.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana, found no reason to interfere with the Telangana High Court's decision and observed that the judgment rested on a correct interpretation of the law and that no interference was warranted. "Your case is 'Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram, phir aaya Ram'?" Justice Bagchi remarked in a jovial manner which is used to describe politicians who frequently switch sides.
