New Delhi: The stalemate continued in both Houses of Parliament for the ninth consecutive day on Friday on the issues of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Indian democracy and the Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani Group matter. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day.

In Lok Sabha, when the House met after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, the Finance Bill 2023 was passed by voice vote amid the din. Members from Congress, DMK, JD(U) and others were in the well. As the ruckus continued, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House to meet on Monday. 

In the morning, when the House met for the day, Opposition members trooped into the well raising slogans over their demands on Adani Group and other issues. As the noisy scenes continued, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 Noon.

In Rajya Sabha, the scenes were no different. When the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 2.30 PM, treasury bench members started sloganeering demanding Rahul Gandhi’s apology for his remarks. Amid pandemonium, Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the House till 3.30 PM. After the second adjournment, when the House met, the House took up the private members’ business resolution



moved by Abdul Wahab pertaining to recommendations of the Sachar Committee Report. Speaking on this resolution, Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Irani said, this resolution must be rejected unanimously. 

She said, after three decades, a new National Education Policy has been implemented by this Government which looks into the needs of children focussing on skill development. Later, the House negated the resolution with a voice vote. Expressing concern over the logjam in the House, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that it is disheartening to see that dialogue and discussions are not taking place in the House in a proper way. He urged the Parliamentarians to introspect as this House is meant for discussing issues of national importance. 

Later, the Chairman adjourned the House to meet on Monday. Earlier, when the House met this morning, the Chairman disallowed the adjournment notices moved by the members of the Opposition parties over the JPC  probe in the Adani Group issue. Afterwards, members from the treasury and Opposition benches started sloganeering. Amid the din, the Chairman said, there is a disorder in the House from both sides. Later, he adjourned the House till 2.30 PM.
