Six persons died and three others were injured after a Cruiser vehicle carrying tourists from Dharwad collided head-on with a lorry on National Highway-52 near Aratibail in Yellapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the early hours of Thursday.
Police said the Cruiser, carrying nine persons, including the driver, was on its way from Dharwad to Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru. The occupants were friends who had planned the trip together.
A preliminary report stated that around 1.30 am on Thursday, when the vehicle was passing through Aratibail near Balagara Cross on NH-52, the driver
of the Cruiser, Sanjeev (33), allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed in a rash and negligent manner.
The Cruiser veered to the extreme right side of the road and collided head-on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction.
The accident resulted in the deaths of six people, including the driver. The deceased have been identified as Akshay (26), Abhishek Eshwar (28), Abhishek (27), Basappa Devappa Kanakanavar (38), Manjunath (33), and driver Sanjeev (33). The three injured have been identified as Shivaraj (22), Sachin (26), and Channabasu (28). All are from Dharwad district.
