In a remarkable display of dedicated service, medical skill, and timely intervention, doctors at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Sindhanur saved the lives of a 34-week pregnant woman and her baby after she was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.
The woman, identified as Srushti, was rushed to the hospital with severe hypertension, recording a blood pressure of 210/120 mm Hg. According to hospital authorities, she was unconscious and suffering from pulmonary oedema, a condition caused by fluid accumulation in the lungs, while her oxygen saturation level had plunged to 40 per cent.
Doctors described it as a ?near miss? case. With her condition deteriorating rapidly, there was no time to shift her to higher medical care in Raichur. Realising the seriousness
of the situation, the hospital team immediately swung into action. A ventilator was immediately arranged from a private hospital. Despite the high risk involved, including the possibility of death during surgery, the patient?s family agreed to an emergency operation, placing their trust in the doctors.
The medical team led by Dr Shakunthala Patil, Dr Kaveri Shavi, Dr Vidya, Dr Shobha, Dr Farhat, and Dr Hanumanth Reddy successfully conducted the emergency surgery and ensured the safe delivery. Following the operation, the mother was kept on ventilator support under intensive care. After days of close monitoring and treatment, she has now recovered sufficiently to be taken off the ventilator and is said to be responding well. The newborn is also safe and under observation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
