Even as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged foul play and called for a Supreme Court-monitored probe into Ajit Pawar’s death, Sharad Pawar has urged restraint, asking political parties not to politicise the tragedy. The NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) chief said the crash appeared to be a pure accident, even as investigations into the incident continue.
In what appeared to be a dig at the Opposition, Sharad Pawar’s first public reaction since his nephew’s death was an appeal to opposition parties not to politicise the tragic incident.
"This is purely an accident; there is no politics in this. The state
has suffered an immense loss, and it cannot be filled," he said.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over Ajit Pawar’s death, claiming there was "no safety and security" even for leaders. She also referred to recent statements attributed to the NCP chief about leaving the BJP that have been circulating on social media.
Questioning the safety and security of political leaders in the country, Mamata Banerjee said, "What happened today raises serious questions." She added, "We have trust only in the Supreme Court, no other agency," claiming that probe agencies have lost their independence.
