Several parts of Northern India received heavy rain and snowfall. In Uttarakhand, fresh spell of heavy snowfall in the hilly areas and light to moderate rain in other parts has dipped the mercury levels.

Normal life in Uttarakhand has been disrupted following the heavy snowfall in higher reaches and light to moderate rains, especially in hilly areas. Schools up to class 12th have been closed today also.

Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh told District administration through video conferencing to ensure bonfires at different locations and distribute blankets to the needy. Met department predicts that the intensity of snow and rain is likely to reduce today.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the fresh snowfall across Kashmir valley yesterday disrupted air traffic at the Srinagar airport while the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the vehicular moment. Officials at Srinagar said due to poor visibility and continuing snowfall, flights to and from the airport where again cancelled



yesterday.

Officials said the Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal road in South Kashmir's Shopian district connecting Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu province, also remained closed for vehicular traffic.

While the snowfall has stopped since yesterday afternoon in Srinagar and other areas, fresh snowfall has snapped the road connectivity in several areas across the Kashmir region.

The national capital Delhi, yesterday recorded its highest 24-hour rainfall in December in the last 22 years which led to a dip in day temperature. The city recorded 33.5 mm rainfall till 5:30 pm.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 18.7 degrees Celsius which is five degrees below normal while the minimum settled at 12.8 degrees Celsius which is four degrees above normal. The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky and moderate fog for today. The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to hover around 19 and 10 degrees Celsius.
