Seven people belonging to the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party sustained injuries when their two-wheelers collided with one another while they were following the convoy behind the campaign vehicle of the party's leader, Vijay, on the highway on Wednesday.
The actor-turned-politician TVK chief Vijay had arrived at Thoothukudi Airport from Chennai to participate in a public rally and campaign in support of the party's candidates in the Nellai and Thoothukudi districts. As he was proceeding along the Thoothukudi-Nellai four-lane highway, more than a hundred TVK volunteers
on two-wheelers followed closely behind his convoy.
As the convoy reached the vicinity of Vagaikulam in Thoothukudi, one two-wheeler collided with another, causing the riders to lose control and fall to the ground.
As a result of the collision, more than five other two-wheelers following behind also fell, resulting in the TVK volunteers being injured. It is reported that five individuals sustained injuries in this incident.
Thoothukudi Rural DSP Sudheer is currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
