Alleging that they had been forced to live without basic amenities for months, girl students of Scheduled Tribe (ST) hostel in Raichur boycotted classes and staged a protest outside the office of the District Scheduled Tribes Welfare Officer on Thursday.

The students said repeated complaints to the hostel warden and other officials had yielded no results, leaving them with no option but to take their grievances directly to the district

authorities.

District Scheduled Tribes Welfare Officer Shivamanappa assured that their grievances would be addressed.

He said complaints regarding the quality of food would be looked into without delay and directed that newspapers and magazines be made available in the hostel from Friday.

"If any negligence on the part of officials is found, notices will be issued against those responsible. We will try to resolve most of the issues within a week," he said.
