The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case today. The apex court is likely to pronounce the judgement at 10.30 am. The Constitution Bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, comprised Justices S.A. Bobde, D.Y. Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S. Abdul Nazeer. The bench had reserved the judgement on October 16 after marathon hearing of 40 days.

Earlier, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi met top officials of the Uttar Pradesh government ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Ayodhya issue. UP Chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari and Director General Police O P Singh met Justice Gogoi in his chamber. Our correspondent quoting sources reports that the Chief Justice had called the top officials for the meeting.  

After apprising the court about the security measures, Director General of Police of State O P Singh inspected the security preparations in Agra and



said that senior police officers are keenly watching the situation and police is working on the ground level to meet any eventuality. He said that if the situation needs then internet services can also be blocked. He further added that special attention is being paid in 31 sensitive districts of the state and also on the nine districts which share borders with neighbouring Nepal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed for peace. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, whatever the apex court decides, it will not be a victory or defeat for anyone. Prime Minister appealed to the citizens of the country to prioritise the fact that the verdict further strengthens the great tradition of peace, unity and goodwill of India.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also said that the Ayodhya verdict should not be taken as victory or defeat for any community and urged the people to remain calm.
