In the Kashmir Valley, the 72nd Republic Day celebrations concluded peacefully amid tight security and high vigil. The main event was held at Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, where Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Khan unfurled the tri-colour and took salute of the ceremonial march past.
 
Contingents of Jammu Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, besides others participated in the march past. Following the Covid-19 related protocol, participation of locals was limited.

Despite harsh weather, Republic Day celebrations were held across the valley with fervour. At the snow- covered Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar, top officials of the UT administration and police besides a limited number of people were present.

In his speech, the Advisor to Lt. Governor, Baseer Khan, highlighted the achievements and various programmes launched by



the Central and UT governments.

He made a special mention of the recently launched Ayushman Bharat Sehat Scheme for the UT. He said that health infrastructure of the UT has been upgraded to a large extent and efforts to further strengthen it are on. He also said that more than 10 lakh farmers of the UT are benefitting from the PM-Kisan Yojana. Khan also said that it was for the first time that DDC elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir, which he described as a historic step. 
 
To boost the economy of the UT, Khan said, Industries will be set up here and land has already been identified in both Jammu and Kashmir for that purpose. He said to promote handloom and handicrafts, the UT administration has recently signed a deal with e-commerce giant, Flipkart. At the end of the function, several cultural programmes were presented by the local artists.
