A 26-year-old woman, Rehana who was recently engaged died by suicide on Monday, in the Chinna Chowk Police Station limits of YSR Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, after her fiancé told her over a phone call that he no longer wanted to marry her.

Deeply distressed by the rejection, 26-year-old Rehana hanged herself at home. SI Prathap Reddy shared details of the case. Rehana, a resident of Kadapa, had completed her M.Sc. and was engaged to Shahjahan, a resident of Proddatur, on February 15, 2026.

Shahjahan worked at an IT company in Bengaluru, and their wedding was fixed for August. After their engagement, the couple spoke daily over the phone and frequently exchanged messages.

Recently, Shahjahan told Rehana

he no longer liked her and had no feelings for her. He also said he had multiple affairs and had four girlfriends.

Initially, Rehana dismissed his remarks thinking it was just a prank. However, when he repeatedly said the same thing, she became depressed and took the extreme step.

The victim's sister also stated that he had told her over a phone call that he did not like her anymore.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and recovered a 12-page suicide note in which she clearly stated the reason for taking her life.

Following a complaint filed by Rehana’s father on Tuesday, police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
