North east monsoon rain which started on October 28 is in its fag end and now restricted in south coastal Tamil Nadu including Rameswaram and Tirunelveli. Met office has forecast isolated rain in south coastal districts because of trough of low pressure in south west Bay and adjoining Sri Lanka.
Rameswaram and Papanasam in Tirunelveli district recorded the highest rainfall of 7 cm each in the state. The North east monsoon rain till now is almost 57 per cent above normal. Heavy rain in catchment areas in Western Ghats has led to 2470 cusecs of water into papanasam dam and 1212 cuscs water into Manimutharu dam.
In Nellai, more than 4000 cusecs of water are being released into Thamaraparani river from theses dams. Normal life in coastal pilgrim place of Rameswaram was badly affected because of incessant rain.
