The Railway Board has approved an important new rail line project between Karhi and Sagma worth over 165 crore rupees, strengthening rail infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. The proposed chord rail line under the West Central Railway (WCR) zone will be 5.31 kilometers long. The bi-directional chord line between Karhi and Sagma will connect the Lalitpur-Singrauli new line to the existing Itarsi-Manikpur line.
Highlighting its importance,
the Railway Board said it aims to increase the capacity of the lines, flyovers and bypass lines. It added that the construction of the Karhi to Sagma chord rail line will strengthen the connectivity of important tourist places like Satna, Panna and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. The line is expected to help in freight movement, industrial development, tourism and improved passenger connectivity in the region.
