Production capacity of Remdesivir increased to nearly 1.19 crore vials per month: Govt

The Government yesterday said that the production capacity of Remdesivir has increased to nearly 1.19 crore vials per month from 38 lakh vials per month.

 

The Chemical and Fertilizers Ministry said, the Department of Pharmaceuticals had intensified monitoring of availability, production and supply of drugs used for COVID-19 Treatment in early April this year. To augment the domestic production capacity, all the seven domestic licensed manufacturers of Remdesivir were asked to ramp up production quickly. 

With the combined efforts of the central government and the manufacturing companies, the production capacity of the licensed manufacturers has increased



unprecedentedly. The Ministry said, all efforts are being made to enhance the availability of the drug both through imports as well as augmented domestic production. Exports of Remdesiver have been prohibited since 11th of last month. 

The Ministry said, 76 lakh vials in total have been allocated yesterday among States for period up to 23rd May. Earlier the Central Government had also provided 1.31 crore Remdesivir to States and Union Territories between the 21st of last month to the 7th May, 2021. The State Governments and UTs have been asked to monitor proper distribution within their jurisdiction covering both government as well as private hospitals.
