Home Minister Priyank Kharge received a grand welcome in his home district on Sunday during his first visit after assuming charge of the Home portfolio.
Congress leaders hailed his growing stature, with some even predicting that he would become Karnataka's Chief Minister in the coming days.
The reception, organised by the Kalaburagi District Congress Committee, drew a large number of party workers and supporters, who welcomed Kharge near Nagareshwar School in the Ganj area and escorted him in a procession to the party office, where a felicitation programme was
held.
Addressing the gathering, Congress MLC Tippanna M Kamakanur said the scale of the welcome reflected Kharge's importance in the state government. "The grand reception itself is proof of how important Priyank Kharge has become in the government.
He is a popular Home Minister and, after the Congress victory again in 2028, he will become the Chief Minister," Kamakanur said. He also urged the inclusion of the Koli, Kabbaliga and other synonymous communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, saying Kharge was the only leader with the political will to pursue the demand.
