President Droupadi Murmu appealed to the graduating students of IIT-ISM Dhanbad to act as catalysts in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat in 2047. President Droupadi Murmu yesterday attended the 45th Convocation Ceremony of Indian Institute of Technology – Indian School of Mines (IIT-ISM) in Dhanbad on the second day of her two-day visit to Jharkhand. The President also released a customised postal stamp to commemorate 100 glorious years of establishment of the technical institute. Principal Secretary to Prime Minister P K Mishra was also awarded the DSc degree in the Convocation ceremony.

Praising the glorious past of the institution, President Droupadi Murmu requested the passing out students to adopt new systems and technological advancements clubbed with innovation for research to resolve problems with simple solutions. She said that technical institutions like IITs must play an important role in making intellectual engineers with cutting edge technologies but also remain grounded, compassionate, sensitive and sympathetic towards mankind.

The President emphasized upon inclusion of more research and development, interdisciplinary studies, patent culture in technical studies while paying attention towards start-ups and innovation. She urged the students to use their technical skills in building Green India and finding sustainable solutions for



the state, country and the world without causing any harm to nature.

The President said that India’s biggest strength is its vast human resources. The increasing access to technical education and the spread of digital skills are leading India towards becoming a technological superpower. Making India’s education system more practical, innovation-focused and industry-friendly will give the right direction to the talent of the country’s youth and allow them to move forward at the global level.

The President also praised the institution’s efforts to set up Tribal Centre of Excellence for resolving the problems of the common and tribal people with the use of technology. She also applauded the institute’s vision to introduce new practices and provide digital learning solutions to the tribal people. Earlier the President also witnessed the exhibition put up by tribal women on Community Innovation at Atal Innovation Centre set up in the institute. 

During the convocation, a total of 1,880 students including 1,055 undergraduate and 711 postgraduates were awarded degrees across various disciplines. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Governor Santosh Gangwar along with Jharkhand’s Higher Education Minister Sudivya Kumar were present for the occasion.
